SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

Hi All
Our daughter Charlotte has gone back to uni, the weather is really starting to feel like Autumn and we have new goodies for the new season smiley

First up I’d like to tell you about our many many new spindles. We have four fab new colours of our popular wheel spindle – plum, mustard, apple green and burnt orange really lovely autumn colours and Simon is now working on adding glitter to a few. If they’re ready in time we’ll have them at Yarndale next week.

We’ve also  got our greatest range of spindle weights ranging from 20-80g in everything from oak, sycamore and yew to cherry, african blackwood and purple heart with a few more inbetween. Many are top whorl but there are new spindles with some more unusual shapes for those who like a bottom whorl too and we’re currently working on a navajo style spindle which again, we hope to have ready for Yarndale.

Our two new fibres are pearl and mint.  Pearl is a soft lustrous fibre giving a smooth and cooling feeling with good moisture absorption and dye uptake. It's a biodegradable cellulose fibre infused with precious pearl powder which contains natural amino acids and trace elements and has natural UV protection.  The mint is a biodegradable cellulose fibre which has been infused with natural mint powder extracted from the peppermint plant, that gives the fibre natural antibacterial and cooling properties. Both look stunning spun up and both can be incorporated into your felt work. I especially like the mint, it’s a great shade of brown beige, not at all pinky.

For the felt makers we’ve managed to source some funky new colours of water sprinklers in bright orange, lemon yellow, bright green and sky blue and they’re a new lower price too! I’ve even written a blog article about them. Yep, we have a blog. Expect to see regular articles about products new and old, book reviews and anything else we think might be of interest to you including the odd tutorial or tip.

For needle felters we have a new wooden single needle holder. Slimmer in the hand than the one that holds three making it easier for smaller hands and to use more like a pencil.

Bergschaf wool is very popular with both wet and dry felt makers and even a few spinners. We’ve increased our range with two new shades - fox, it really is a perfect fox colour and dark brown. It seems the fox is already so popular it’ll be a regular and we’ll see how much you like the dark brown before we decide to stock it permanently.

There’s already a book review on our new blog where we talk about Jenny Barnett’s new wet felting book. We’re so pleased to be stocking it, Felt Making Workshops is another little gem from Jenny and well worth a look.

Weavers haven’t been forgotten, we stock a range of Ashford looms and accessories plus an ever expanding range of books on the subject.

Everyone loves soft, silky, shiny  silk and we’ve added a vibrant shade of turquoise mulberry silk to our stash, I love it!Finally, for those who like to dye their own fibre/yarn/felt we have two new acid dye colours, pink and brown. Feedback from your good selves suggested the brown in particular was what you needed.

As you can see it’s been a busy time over the last month, we hope you approve of the new blog and the many new products. If you’d like to see and feel them in person you’re welcome to visit our shop or visit with us at one of the autumn shows.
