Bottom Whorl & Turkish Spindles

All these spindles are made here in the UK. These styles of spindles are also known as drop or suspended spindles. Sometimes referred to as free spindle spinning as the spinner was free to walk about whilst spinning. Spindle spinning has been dated back as far as 5,000 B.C. and historians agree that it could well be much earlier. Drop spindle spinning is a great, inexpensive introduction to the art of spinning allowing the spinner to create a great variety of yarns in a wide range of fibres from wool, cotton, silk and alpaca to seaweed and dog hair.
